November 8th

Tomorrow is my last iron iv, then its back to the doctors to find out what other tests they want to run...I did have an endoscopy and colonoscopy. They found a hiatal hernia, which I read can cause iron deficiency anemia. I talked briefly on the phone with one of my doctors and he said he didn't think that was the cause. We'll see when I go to my other two docs. I did get off track with my juicing with vacation, but I'm getting back on track! And I'm walking. I am feeling better, and I can't believe my craving for ice is completely gone!My colon was completely clean, I know that's from the juicing. And when I'm not juicing I do crave it. Excited to see where my blood levels are at and can't wait to know what's wrong!! We r trying to make our kids juice, have at least half a glass a day! Start with that, stubborn children!

September 7th, 2012

K...So today, I had a breakthrough! Been having my beet juice at least once a day, if not twice. Well anyone close to me knows I eat ice 24/7...and I mean 24/7 from the time I get up, to sometimes in the middle of the night (no joke). Which is a sign of anemia, seriously, google it. So, my breakthrough, NO ICE FOR TWO DAYS!! Thats CrAzY!!! Ask, my kids who always get me ice!!! I'm so excited, I even got emotional today. It's like an attic, not wanting their fix, and I mean not WANTING it, not fighting against the want!!!. So I'm  so, so hopeful!!! The beets are doing their job! I go to the hematologist on Wednesday and I hope they still give me an iron infusion, cuz I will take it willingly and get it when I can!! I feel so much better :) So we shall see what my blood results reveal. I just wanna get back to my marathon goals!!

Its been a while!!! September 5, 2012

I had a really busy summer!! I had my nephews here and we did A LOT!! We had a blast showing them Maui. Little did I know that I would once again have a horrible health scare. The last week they were here, Friday August 17th we went to the beach all day with our friends, then we took the kids swimming at the Grand Wailea. That next morning, Saturday, August 18th, I woke up to my heart beating out of control. I thought I was having a panic attack, so I tried breathing and relaxing. Well, it kept thumping hard. So finally, I told Chris and we went to the ER. They got me back and my heart rate was 220, the nurse panicked a bit and hurried and called to the back, "Code red, we have a 36 yr. old female with a heart rate of 220." They rushed me back and got me hooked up to the ECG machine. I had six nurses and the doctor all around me, they put the stickers on me for the shocker thing a ma jigs, shoved on iv in my arm and told me that they were going to give me medicine in my IV that was going to make me feel really funky. So the doc called out to all the nurses, "Are you all ready, they were all hovered around me." And I was thinking, "Wow, this is it, I'm going to die!" They squeezed that medicine through my body and I felt the worst rush ever! They made sure I was still conscious and my heart rate started going down, not as quickly as they wanted. So the doc started talking to me about my anemia and my blood count. My iron was down to less than ten, I couldn't believe it! and my blood level was at a 5 when it should be a fifteen. Once again, I am so low on iron that my body isn't making red blood cells. My heart was working over time to carry oxygen through my body. So of course, the doc wants to give me a blood transfusion, and as he is talking to me about it, my heart rate goes right back up to 220. So they hurry and lay me back down and have to give me that horrible medicine again, which what it does, is stops your heart for one second. So they have the shockers just in case it stops completely. So after that, the doc said "No more talk of blood transfusions for right now." He gave me a shot of a Valium too. So I spent the night in the hospital, they gave me two iron iv's and a shot in my stomach that builds your blood. After I went to my doctor and FINALLY, after asking for two years he referred me to the hematologist  and I am going to be able to get iron infusions. The pills won't stay down. I am already feeling so much better, but now I do have to take beta blockers for my heart. My blood pressure is still perfect 120 over 70. So my heart rate is caused from the anemia. So I have been juicing everyday again faithfully, I have kept off the 30 lbs I lost, so that's good news. Every morning I have a beet juice with strawberries and kale. Beets are one of the best things for me. They build and purify your blood, high in iron. One article said they cure anemia, thats what I am hoping for. Helps with stress, heart related diseases, helps your acne and dry skin, gives your skin a glow. Helps prevent cancer, birth defects, digestive problems..the list goes on and on. I just want to feel good, to be able to exercise and not feel like passing out! I had to put my marathon goals on hold, but I will get there again. Chris and I have been doing uphill walking in the mornings, I'll have to work up to running again. But at least I can start my treatments now. I'll keep you posted ;)

April 26th 2012

I have been reading up a lot on training for a marathon. Its a good thing we have til September before the first half marathon. So right now we are focusing on being able to run for 30 minutes without stopping, that's the first step. Our actual training will start July 1st. We are still juicing 3 to 4 times a week, it just makes us feel better. Every morning we have our Green Smoothie for breakfast (Spinach, mango, banana, flax seed and fresh green apple juice, or pineapple juice) I take the spiralina tablets, or the powder in my smoothie. And we eat super healthy, all organic and veggies. I can't believe how much I am enjoying running, how much better I feel. I am getting addicted. We are trying to lose 5 lbs a week, but that doesn't always happen. We still lose every week! I think setting goals helps so much and I think the marathon's will keep us focused. I'll have to post some more recipes I have found :)

April 21st

We did make it through our sixty days, Yay! Now we are focusing on sticking to 1200 to 1700 calories a day. And staying away from empty calories. I still juice at least once a day, because it makes me feel so much better. We have been walking/ jogging every night. I can't jog the whole time yet, but I'm getting closer to my final goal of being a runner on the beach :) We are going to do some 1/2 marathons, leading up to the marathon in January. 26.2 miles from Wailea to Lahaina town, WOW! but what a gorgeous run right on the coast. The first 1/2 marathon is September 15th. so we have a while to train. Im excited. Well we will keep you posted!

Day Forty Five

We are still mostly juicing, but we have slowly started to add other things back to our diet, like, beans, brown rice, granola. I've been doing green smoothies with spirilina and flaxseed. We are sticking to 1200 to 1700 calories a day.
Chris tried the cleanse doing one quart of warm water with 2 tbsp. of sea salt. It worked fine for him.. I tried it and violently threw up. Ugghh, it was awful!!
We are writing everything we eat down and exercising. Starting phase 2 a little early, we need more food with the exercising we have been doing.
